A fragile world can only exist in a glass jar.

Inspired by the thoughts of Sebastian Junger, an American journalist.

Have you ever heard of the term victim mentality? It's been a hot topic lately, with people advocating for personal responsibility instead. But have we forgotten the importance of facing discomfort and overcoming challenges? How do we strike a balance between taking ownership of our lives and still pushing ourselves outside of our comfort zones? Let's delve deeper into this thought-provoking topic.

“As a culture, we’ve forgotten how to deal with suffering. It’s not clear to me that if Nietzsche or Freud were alive today they would be considered mentally healthy. They suffered greatly and they used that suffering to teach us things.”

— Sebastian Junger

Fragile

The truth is, victim mentality has become so rampant that it is almost fashionable to be fragile. It has become a way of life for many people, and they use it as an excuse for their shortcomings and failures. But for anyone who is even a little ambitious or savage, this presents a golden opportunity.

The bar has never been set lower, and with a bit of consistency, intentionality, resilience, and talent, you can become an absolute savage.

The victim mentality is a dangerous trap that can hold you back from achieving your goals. It’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling sorry for yourself and blaming your circumstances for your failures. But the truth is, your circumstances don’t define you. It’s your response to those circumstances that matter. You can either let them defeat you or use them as fuel to propel you forward.

Worldviews change, and so should yours. If you want to grow that is.

Steps

The first step to overcoming victim mentality is to take responsibility for your life. This means accepting that you are in control of your own destiny and that your success or failure depends on your actions. Once you accept this truth, you can begin to take intentional steps towards your goals.

The next step is to build resilience. Life is full of setbacks and challenges, and it’s important to be able to bounce back from them. Resilience is about being able to handle adversity with grace and come out stronger on the other side. This takes practice and intentionality, but it’s a skill that will serve you well in all areas of life.

“There is a certain enthusiasm in liberty, that makes human nature rise above itself, in acts of bravery and heroism.” -Alexander Hamilton.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of wanting to improve the people around you. We all want to see our friends and loved ones succeed, and we believe that we can help them by changing their behaviours or thought patterns. But there is a limit to what you can do for others.

Changing people is a great effort, but it doesn’t work with everyone. Some people refuse to change their habits or update their worldviews, and they will always create emotional hurdles on your way to success.

Surround yourself with the right people. Or die trying?

The Key

The key to success, then, is to surround yourself with the right people. People who are driven, ambitious, and willing to work hard to achieve their goals. These are the people who will inspire you to be your best self and push you to achieve greatness. When you build your dream life with the right people, it’s 100x easier than when you’re surrounded by the wrong set of people.

Humans are not afraid of hardship or the climb, they only crave a sense of purpose and belonging.

Indeed, humans are not afraid of hardship or challenges but rather crave a sense of purpose and belonging within their social groups.

As social creatures, we seek validation and acceptance from our peers and feeling irrelevant or ignored can cause deep emotional pain. In today’s society, where many people are disconnected from their communities and lack meaningful connections with others, this need for validation and purpose can manifest in a victim mentality. By adopting this mindset, individuals may feel that their struggles are not their fault and that they are not responsible for their own success or failure. However, this mentality can ultimately lead to a lack of resilience and an inability to overcome obstacles, hindering personal growth and progress.

Conclusion

In conclusion, victim mentality is a dangerous trap that can hold you back from achieving your goals. But for those who are willing to put in the work, it presents a golden opportunity. By taking responsibility for your life, building resilience, and developing your talents, you can become an absolute savage. And when you surround yourself with the right people, building your dream life becomes 100x easier. So don’t fall into the trap of victim mentality. Instead, use it to your advantage and become the best version of yourself.
